First, let me tell the truth that my baby girl Summer made the Bolognese Sauce tonight.
It’s my recipe but Summer was in charge of cooking dinner tonight.
It’s almost better than mine but she’s too young to receive such accolades.
I don’t want to blow her head and ego up too much just yet! lol
I wanted to take the time to spend with her before she went off to college so I had to take a break from work to give her my full attention.
These last few months have been hectic and I spent most of them crying because my baby ain’t no baby no mo’!
I am better now and back to work.
BTW I need to take photos of Summer’s dorm room so you can see how beautiful Summer and I decorated it!
Luckily, Summer is all situated and she’s having so much fun at school and I am handling the empty nest syndrome better than I expected.
I finally left my closet where I spent weeks holding my beautiful shoes and rocking myself to sleep! lol
This rich sauce is loaded with ground turkey but you can use beef and I often make it with beef and veal.
If using beef don’t forget to drain the meat once it’s browned before adding the remaining ingredients.
BTW: This sauces freezes very well and Summer took a container back to the dorm because she found out Barilla makes Ready Pasta now that’s microwavable!
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 1 hour
Total Time: 1 hour, 15 minutes
Serving Size: 6-8
1 lb Italian sausage, fresh, casing removed
1 lb ground turkey, beef, and/or veal.
1 lb pasta, cooked according to package directions. I used Pappardelle pasta.
1 red onion, diced
1 bell pepper, diced
1 stalk celery, dice
1 carrot, peeled and grated
1/2 bunch Italian parsley, minced
4 cloves garlic, minced
2 cups chicken broth
1 28oz. can crushed tomatoes
1 6oz. can tomato paste
1 tablespoon black pepper
1 tablespoon creole seasoning or seasoning salt
1 tablespoon garlic powder Coupons
1 tablespoon onion powder
1 tablespoon oregano, dried, crushed
1 teaspoon crushed red pepper
1 teaspoon sugar
extra virgin olive oil
Mix seasonings and set aside.
In a large soup pot heated over medium heat add 2 tablespoon of olive oil, add onion, bell pepper, carrot, and celery.
Saute for about 5 minutes, add garlic and cook 1 minute more. Add ground turkey and Italian sausage and break apart.
Season with 1 tablespoons of seasoning blend and cook until browned about 15 minutes.
Add tomato paste and mix well, cook for 5 more minutes.
Season with 1 tablespoon more of spice blend and mix well.
Add tomato sauce and chicken broth, season with remaining seasoning blend and mix well.
Lower heat to medium-low and cook uncovered for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Add chopped parsley and mix well and allow sauce to cook about 15 more minutes. Add 1/2 cup of parmigiano reggiano and mix well.
Cook your favorite pasta up and top with the sauce and a little extra cheese if desired.
